Well child visits (or physicals) are important, even when children are healthy. Your child’s pediatrician will evaluate his or her general health, growth and development. Your child’s pediatrician will also give you information and give your child needed medical services, such as:
- Health exams
- Vision, hearing and lab services
- Shots (vaccinations)
- Tracking growth and development
- Medical referrals to specialists, if needed
During well child visits, your child’s pediatrician can detect and address health problems before they become more serious. We encourage you to ask questions. These visits are the time to ask and receive information about:
- Health and safety
- Nutrition and diet
- Physical fitness
- Sleep habits
- Growth and development
- Behavior and discipline
- School concerns
It is also important to have a primary care provider and to use the same provider as much as possible for your child’s health care needs.
Schedule of Well-Child Care Visits
Below is a general chart of the well-child schedule and what to expect at each visit. Your pediatrician will tell you when to schedule your next appointment and what to expect at that appointment. Orange Docs of Kids does adhere to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)’s recommended immunization schedule, which can be found by clicking on the Immunizations page on our website.
